Our current research revolves around the development of multiphysics models (electromagnetic, thermal and mechanical) and co‐simulation involving 1G and 2G HTS technologies for tapes and bulks (for the latter). Our focus is twofold: 1) the modeling of power system components coupling finite element models and external electrical circuits represented by lumped parameters, and 2) the modeling of 2G HTS insert magnets for very high field DC magnets application. The tools are in some cases commercial such as COMSOL multiphysics or opensource such as Onelab (Gmsh/GetDP) depending on the complexity of the numerical model, Onelab demanding in some cases the development of one’s own solver.
Our experience is mainly in the modeling of HTS wires/tapes in DC and AC applications. Nevertheless, we have lately had the opportunity to characterize HTS coils and cables in AC conditions bringing together numerical and experimental works.
