The main areas of activity of Professor Ruiz's group are oriented to the computational modelling, prototyping, optimization, and physical understanding of energy systems, electrical machines, and innovative superconducting technologies. In particular, Prof. Ruiz group specializes in the application of Variational Methods, Optimal Control algorithms, and Finite Element Methods, these applied to a large set of problems in Electrical Engineering, Materials Sciences and Applied Superconductivity. Prof. Ruiz has participated in this workshop since its early conception at Lausanne in 2010, being invited as speaker at its version in Cambridge (2011), and regularly attended or sent contributions to the following ones. Currently, Prof. Ruiz lead one of the four workgroups on applied superconductivity conforming the Hi‐Scale European COST Action. Prof. Ruiz have participated in more than 10 research funded projects accounting for circa $2.5M USD; and is well known by his contributions on the numerical modelling of type‐II superconductors and his developments of the critical state theory.
