Does an EU citizen need a visa to come to France?

It depends on your nationality and the length of your stay. You can check if you need a visa by using the following link: https://france-visas.gouv.fr/en_US/web/france-visas/ai-je-besoin-d-un-visa

You must meet all of the following conditions when crossing the border:

  • Possess a passport (or other travel document) issued for less than 10 years and whose validity period is at least 3 months longer than the planned date of your departure,
  • If your nationality so requires, hold a valid visa issued by a Schengen country,
    • justify the purpose and conditions of your stay (private or business trip, proof of reception or proof of accommodation),
    • have taken out insurance covering medical and hospital expenses, including social assistance, for the care you might receive in France (the minimum coverage required is € 30,000),
    • not to be reported for non-admission to the Schengen Information System,
    • not to pose a threat to public order, internal security, public health or the international relations of any Schengen country,
  • Have sufficient resources (cash, bank cards, etc.) or be able to acquire them legally (professional activity, etc.).

The level of resources required per day of stay in France varies according to the proof of accommodation.

You must submit your visa application (no more than 3 months before the planned departure) to the French consular authorities of the country where you live.
